Hacienda La Alegría nestles amidst lush surroundings in the typical fertile farmland of the Ecuadorian inter-Andean plain. Built in 1910 in Franco-Italian style, it has conserved its homely, original features and beautiful gardens awash with colorful flowers and native trees, including some species in danger of extinction, such as the wax palm, cedar and podocarpus. Located just 35km. south of Quito, along the Avenue of the Volcanoes, it is less than an hour's drive from the city, yet lost in the middle of rolling green countryside, surrounded by snow-capped and rocky peaks, such as Cotopaxi, Pasochoa, Illiniza, Corazón, Sincholagua and Viudita. These destinations can all be easily reached on foot, horseback or mountain bike - activities all offered by the hacienda.
